Deputy Chief John DiMaria

Born and raised in Long Island, NY, Deputy Chief DiMaria has dedicated his life to service, both in the military and in the civilian sector. Their journey began in 2000 when they enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Over the next six years, Deputy Chief DiMaria served as a Dental Technician/Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, providing essential medical care to fellow service members. After his active duty, he continued his commitment to the Navy by spending an additional two years in the Military Reserves.

Driven by a passion for emergency medical services, Deputy Chief DiMaria pursued his EMT certification upon completing their military service. In 2006, he enrolled in a fire academy program. In 2007, Deputy Chief DiMaria joined the Sanibel Fire and Rescue District. This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter, allowing him to apply his medical and emergency training to serve the local island community. Over the years, he has become a cornerstone of the department, known for his unwavering dedication, professionalism, and ability to handle high-pressure situations with composure and expertise. His commitment to continuous improvement and leadership has made a significant impact on the team and the community he serves.

Deputy Chief DiMaria has been married for 19 years. Together with his wife, they have raised twin boys, who are now 17 years old. In addition to their practical experience he has earned an Associate of Science degree in Emergency Medical Services, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration. Recognizing the importance of advanced education in enhancing his ability to serve and lead, he went on to complete a master’s degree in public administration. 

Throughout his career, Deputy Chief DiMaria has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to public service, blending his military, medical, and emergency response expertise. His journey is marked by a continuous drive to serve others, whether in the Navy, in emergency medical services, or as a dedicated firefighter.
