The Fire
Training Program incorporates both didactic and practical training fire and EMS concepts. Training includes:
Fire Operations –
Structural and Wild land firefighting.
Rope Training
Basic and Advanced Life support
– Monthly training with the Fire District’s Medical Director, the
Fire District utilizes three Board Certified Emergency Room Physicians to conduct the training. Bi-annual recertification for EMT’s
and Paramedics which include Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS)
and CPR/AED.
Water
Rescue
– Weekly training is conducted on the District’s 25’ Boston
Whaler, the boat is designed for rescue and firefighting
operations which include a 45” side mounted removable
door .
Hazardous
Materials
– Personnel are trained at the technical level for Hazardous - Material
response.
Confined
Space Rescue
– The Island has 105 sewer lift stations, although rare, accidents do occur in and around these sites. Fire personnel are
trained and equipped with the specialized equipment needed to handle these rescues.
The District
frequently brings in some of the best instructors locally and
throughout the United States, to instruct personnel on current
updates and techniques, on how to handle specialized rescues.
These training programs are designed to provide the community with highly qualified and well-trained employees.
