                           Sanibel Emergency Response Team

The CERT program was developed to train individuals to safely assist their neighbors in times of need.

The program is designed so even those who have physical challenges could still in some way provide

     assistance where needed.

The goal of the program is to empower our community with the tools needed to assist each other in times

of a disaster.  The course will instruct members how to handle various tasks, that may be necessary to

perform in a disaster setting.  They include disaster preparedness, fire safety, medical operations (first-

aid), damage assessment and search and rescue techniques.

All of these can and will be used by anyone willing to learn.

Did you know. . . . . .

There is a good chance that your neighborhood could be on its own during the early stages following a
disaster.
After a disaster, citizens will volunteer to help.  Without proper training these people could expose
themselves to potential injuries.
Experience has shown that basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills; improves the ability of
citizens to survive until responders or others arrive.
